Sniff Soy Candles have just launched the sweetest sounding Christmas candles! From Figgy Pudding (YUM!) to Christmas Tree, there’s gotta be one to please everyone. For the month of November there is free shipping on all candles!

I asked owners Ally & Toni to tell me a little more about Sniff and the correct candle burning etiquette (it’s not as easy as it sounds!)

1. When did you start Sniff Soy Candles and why?

Toni: Sniff Soy Candles started in January 2011 but making candles was always a love of mine and people kept asking me for them so I decided to see how they’d sell.
Ally: I’d just come back from a brief period of living in New York and was keen to start my own business, I thought teaming up with Toni was a recipe for success!

2. Describe a typical day at SSC HQ

Toni: Hectic! We come in and check emails for orders and our social media, polish and label from the candles made the previous day and have a quick pow wow to plan out the day. I design our labels and packaging so I’ll work on that while also researching new fragrance and essential oils we could use to create scents in the future. We pour candles in the afternoon which is very soothing and they set overnight in the perfect temperature.
Ally: I also spend some time delivering our candles to our local stockists, chatting to them about what works, which candles are selling the best and generally catching up. I’ll also visit new stockists, deliver candles to media and spend time putting together PR campaigns and marketing material.

3. How did you decide on the Christmas range?

Toni: I wanted to do lovely things that remind me of the festive season, but scents that will suit all tastes. The Candy Cane is fresh and uplifting, Festive Pomander is spicy and citrusy and reminds me of cold Christmases in England.
Ally: I absolutely love scents which evoke favourite foods and occasions. Figgy Pudding is rich and comforting and everybody needs the scent of a real Christmas Tree in their home.

4. What is your favourite Christmas scent?

Ally: Mine is Figgy Pudding, it reminds me of a lovely combination of all things Christmas – food, family and rum!
Toni: It depends on what mood I’m in but Candy Cane is great for giving us a lift in the morning and the Festive Pomander is wonderful and envelops the whole studio.

5. How do you get the most life out of a candle?

Toni: Keep an unlit candle next to your bed for a subtle scent which will waft gently through your room, I like Sunday Wash Line for my bedside.
Ally: Don’t burn your candle in drafty spot or in a room without people in it to enjoy it! For safety reasons too of course!

6. What’s the correct candle burning etiquette?

Ally: Trim the wick to 5mm before lighting and then let the wax pool melt until it reaches the edge of the candle, this will give you a great scent throw and also make the candle burn cleanly all the way through.
Toni: Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours in a row. Burn your candle when you’re home alone or with loved ones, based on the atmosphere you’d like to create.
