After many months of secret squirrel meetings I can finally reveal some seriously beautiful rugs I’ve co-designed with Urban Road. I thought I’d post up the professional shots taken last week on location in Casino in country NSW as well as a behind the scenes look at how a photoshoot like that comes together. *Hint* lots of organisation and lots of dedicated people – there’s no “I” in team!

Suzie & Emma rugs

Suzie the Director of Urban Road and I had a number of meetings to come up with the designs and colours for the rugs, and luckily we were headed in the same direction from day one. We wanted to create rugs in designs that haven’t been seen anywhere else before, for starters they are digital prints on rugs, not your regular flat weaves or polypropylene so they had to be special. We were inspired by Palm Springs and the California desert with many of the designs. (I’m actually heading to Palm Springs in just under a fortnight!!)

After a few changes here and there to colours and saturations we had our 9 rugs!! Last week we shot the catalogue and here’s some insight into just how big a production it is to shoot a few pictures for a catalogue.

Many hands make….photoshoots easier!

We shot the rugs at the Oaten’s Casino store as we had access to ‘pods’  that were perfect little studios, the only problem was switching up the backdrops so the very talented Maree (pictured above in blue) bought some large pieces of plywood and painted them in all sorts of complimentary Taubmans paint colours. We then tacked them onto the walls and the wonders of Photoshop meant we didn’t have to paint the entire wall each time!

Behind The Scenes

Each rug design required a whole new look, fortunately we had 4 pods to use as mini studio set ups so I got to work putting the sets together while the others were being photographed. It was a big shoot that required loads of organisation and dedication. We didn’t rest until the shots were absolutely perfect…I may have put my feet up at one stage 😉

How a shoot comes together….

The Taubmans colours we used were Steeple Grey, Sugared Peach, Still Tidewater & Elegant Evening (my favourite!).

All of the above photos resulted in these stunning collection of professional shots….

Aren’t they beautiful!? I STILL can’t decide on a favourite design, one minute I’m in love with the leopards, the next the pink spliced stripe!

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing what is involved in a photoshoot of this size! These beautiful rugs will make their debut at Life In Style on Thursday this week. They are available in 200 x 300cm – the ideal size that will suit most room sizes and will retail for $749.

If you’d like to pre-order a rug please pop your name down on the Urban Road website so you’re first to be notified.
