A little while ago I stumbled across this gorgeous little business called Minty Prints and fell in love with their cute prints so thought I’d ask Amy & Casey more about how and why they started the business. The girls were kind enough to offer a free print to Nest blog readers. To enter the competition just leave a comment below stating which your favourite print is and like their Facebook page. Winner will be drawn Friday 14th Dec.
What inspired you to start Minty Prints?
Amy: Casey (my business partner) and I have worked together in the advertising/marketing field together for several years and we have very similar taste when it comes to the kinds of designs we love. Earlier this year we got talking one day about how much we would love to design our own range of graphic prints and how rare it is to find fun, fresh designs where we live in Warrnambool (south west Victoria)…one thing lead to another and the next thing we knew we were planning our first collection in time for Christmas.
What is your career background?
Amy: After a short stint at Uni doing a Maths and Statistics degree I soon realised by true passion was not for numbers but for graphic design! So I took the plunge (much to my parents dismay) and changed degrees. In 2008 I completed my BA, majoring in Graphic Design and Marketing. In the last year of my studies I undertook an internship at an advertising agency which lead to a full time position and my very first job as a graphic designer =D. I have never looked back.
Casey: I studied public relations and journalism at university and spent a year lecturing in public relations once I finished my degree. After doing some travelling I then spent 6 1/2 years in the public relations/marketing/advertising field with an agency as an Account Director before I had my little girl, Isabel in May 2011. I returned to the industry in May this year before starting Minty Prints with Amy in October.
How did you decide on the designs?
Amy: The first stage was deciding how many prints we wanted to start with and what kind of designs we wanted to create. The idea was that we wanted to come up with designs that were positive and would make people smile, but could also be displayed in several different areas of people’s homes or would make great gifts for many occasions. From there it was literally a process of the two of us sitting down and brainstorming various thoughts and pieces of inspiration we had collected over the years and then giving them each their own personality via a range of font types, colours, illustrations and design elements.
If you had to pick one which is your favourite design?
Amy: I think that’s a little bit like picking which is your favourite child (not that I have one), I like them all. But if i HAD to pick one, like if my life depended on it, I would have to say simply because I love the beach then Salt in the Air would come out on top. I did enjoy the process of illustrating the Round and Round the Garden one as well.
Casey: I’ve got two favourites! Everything Happens for a Reason is the thinking I try to follow in life, so to have that on display on my living room wall is a great way to be reminded every day…and Round and Round the Garden for sentimental reasons as it was the first nursery rhyme that my daughter learnt the little hand actions to.
Don’t forget to comment below with your favourite print! My fave has got to be “Focus on the good”…
